Last Year's Champ is Relaxed and Comfortable Heading to Homestead

CONCORD, NC (November 13, 2006) This time last year, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver Ted Musgrave was coming off of a leisurely motorcycle ride with his race team that started in Daytona Beach, Fla., and ended in the Florida Keys.  The ride was in preparation for the tough challenge ahead of the driver holding onto a narrow 58-point margin to secure his first-ever Truck Series championship.  Musgrave and his teammates got it right and the 50 year-old driver from Franklin, Wis., earned his first NCTS championship after finishing no less than third in points since 2001.  Musgrave is upbeat, relaxed and looking forward to just racing when he fires up his Team ASE/Germain Toyota Tundra for Friday's Ford 200 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

"It's always nice to head into the season finale in a place that's warm it keeps everyone in a good mood," chuckled Musgrave. "Homestead's track surface has really come in. It's not a one-groove race track anymore it's a track where you can have a lot of run racing, make quite a few passes and really pick your own groove around the racetrack."

Musgrave says he's just thinking about racing in this year's season finale, and hopes teammate Todd Bodine, the current championship points leader, is feeling as relaxed as possible heading into Homestead.

"Todd's in a really good position compared to where I was last year. I don't think there's gonna be much pressure on him other than he'll probably be a little nervous just being in that position to be a champion," said Musgrave, who knows that locking up the championship isn't something he can really help with this season.  "There's nothing I can do to really help the situation, so I guess you could say I'm comfortable heading into Homestead.  I'm thinking mostly about getting the Team ASE guys a win in the #9 Toyota Tundra they've worked hard all year."

With no opportunity to pick up spots in the standings this weekend, Musgrave will just race hard and try to make sure he stays in fourth place in the standings.

"Our position is pretty well locked in," said Musgrave. "We could maybe lose down to the fifth position, but we can't gain any positions. It'll be nice to get another top-five points finish and for the Team ASE Tundra team, this will be a great points year for them."

Musgrave is currently fourth in the championship standings, behind leader Bodine, Johnny Benson and David Reutimann.
