David Gilliland Charlotte II Race Preview
M&M'S® RACING TEAMS UP WITH SAM'S CLUB AT CHARLOTTE
Concord, NC (October 12, 2006) The M&M'S® #38 Ford Fusion will sport a special paint scheme this weekend promoting its partnership with SAM'S CLUB, one of the nation's largest warehouse chains, in Saturday's Bank of America 400. Joining SAM'S CLUB in its NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series debut is M&M'S® driver David Gilliland, who will make his first career start at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
"Saturday's race marks our first involvement in NASCAR and we are very proud to be partnered with the M&M'S Team," said Mark Goodman, Executive Vice President of Marketing, Membership and E-commerce for SAM'S CLUB. "We all look forward to watching the M&M'S/SAM'S CLUB Ford under the lights in Charlotte as well as having David visit our Kannapolis, N.C. Club to meet our members as we get ready for a great weekend of racing."
"We are excited to welcome SAM'S CLUB to our team for this weekend's race in Charlotte," said Kevin Riveroll, Senior Director of Sponsorships and Sports Marketing for Masterfoods USA. "Our NASCAR sponsorship continues to be a valuable tool in not only reaching our consumers, but also strengthening our relationships with our trade partners. It's an honor to be able to introduce SAM'S CLUB to the NASCAR community by running this special paint scheme."
This August, M&M'S® Chocolate Candies announced David Gilliland as the driver of its #38 Ford Fusion. Saturday's race will mark the ninth appearance for Gilliland behind the wheel of the M&M'S entry, coming on the heels of his first NEXTEL Cup Series pole last weekend at Talladega Superspeedway.
"It's great to have SAM'S CLUB on board the M&M'S Ford this weekend in Charlotte," said Gilliland. "Over the past couple of months, I have really enjoyed meeting many of the people who make the M&M'S racing program so successful, such as our great partner in Sam's Club."
"Obviously racing at Charlotte is exciting for all of the drivers and teams because when you are racing in your backyard, you really want to run well," Gilliland continued. "This will be my first start at Charlotte, but I have tested and practiced a Busch car here, so it will not be completely new.
"After a great weekend at Talladega, this team has a lot of confidence and we are looking for a strong finish for our M&M'S/SAM'S CLUB Ford."
Signing on as a team sponsor over 15 years ago, Masterfoods USA has steadily increased its level of participation in America's fastest growing spectator sport. Beginning in 1999, Masterfoods unveiled its trademark brand, M&M'S, as its on-track focal point serving as a primary sponsor in the sport's premier NEXTEL Cup Series.
Joining M&M'S, the Official Chocolate of NASCAR, as primary sponsor of the #38 Ford Fusion are PEDIGREE® Brand Food for Dogs and Combos®. These Masterfoods brands serve as primary sponsors of the No. 38 Ford Fusion in a combined seven events during the 2006 season.
