Johnny Sauter California II Race Preview
SAUTER AND TEAM YELLOW RACING CARRY MOMENTUM INTO CALIFORNIA
LOOKING FOR FIRST WIN OF 2006
FONTANA, CA (August 31, 2006) Johnny Sauter and Team Yellow Racing are eager to hit the track at California Speedway this Saturday after their spirited performance in last weekend's Food City 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway. After going two laps down, Sauter rallied back to an 11th-place finish sparking a wave of momentum for the entire team.
Currently posted ninth in the championship point standings with only nine races remaining, Sauter says he and the team are as committed as ever to taking Team Yellow to victory lane.
"With the season winding down everyone at Team Yellow continues to focus on getting to victory lane," said Sauter. "If you ask anyone on the team, I'm sure they'd all say we thought we would have had multiple wins by now. But, it's a new era in Busch Series racing and it's more competitive than it's ever been so we're trying to be innovators and create possibilities for success."
Having posted a 13th-place finish in the season's first outing at California Speedway in February, crew chief Harold Holly brings the same #00 Chevy but with a Generation 3 makeover.
"We were real pleased with the car we ran here at the beginning of the season, so we're feeling pretty confident about the potential of Team Yellow this weekend," said Holly. "We've come a long way since we were here last and we've learned a lot about our aero package. The main difference in the car for this weekend is we've applied the successful body attributes from the G3 version of cars that we ran so well with at New Hampshire and Martinsville."
Sure to aid the cause this weekend, as always, is the Team Yellow Pit Crew who continue to lead the Checkers/Rally's Double Drive-Thru Pit Challenge with nine wins on the season. Their next-closest competitor is six races behind. Should they hold on to win the overall challenge, the team will split a $10,000 bonus following the season finale in Homestead.
"I honestly can't put a price tag on the value of our pit crew this season," Sauter said. "What you see from week to week is what happens on track, but the pit crew has had a major impact on our season and the fact that we're enjoying a top-10 points year. Hopefully we can wrap it all together for a solid Team Yellow performance this weekend."
The Ameriquest 300 gets underway Saturday at 10:00pm ET and will air live on TNT. MRN will carry the live radio broadcast.
