Jon Wood - Homestead-Miami Race Preview

JON WOOD: …LAST YEAR WE WERE SIXTH IN THE BUSCH RACE SO I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS WEEKEND."

Jon Wood, driver of the #47 Clorox/American Red Cross Ford Fusion in the NASCAR Busch Series has four starts at Homestead-Miami Speedway.  His first three came in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.  And the fourth was in the JTG Racing Clorox Ford Busch entry a year ago where he finished sixth.

"I like the track.  I like the new configuration.  I've raced on both the way it used to be and the way it is now.  I've had decent success there.  We finished eighth in the trucks on the new configuration the second time we were there.  And, last year we were sixth in the Busch race so I'm looking forward to this weekend."

There are challenges for the Busch Series teams at the 1.5-mile Florida oval.  "We have one practice during the day," said Wood, "and one in the evening, but we race at night so it makes it more of a guessing game.  We qualify during the day on Saturday before the race so it probably all evens out, but night races are always a challenge.  I like them though."

Wood has not seen the success in 2006 he had hoped for.  What's on his wish list for 2007?  "Everything we expected from last year to this year to happen next year.  I think that the merger (between Wood Brothers Racing and ST Motorsports now Wood Brothers/JTG Racing) was more of challenge than anybody expected.  It has just taken a lot more time than anyone thought.  So I'd just like to have happen next year what we had hoped and expected to have happen this year.

"Clorox is such a great sponsor, and we just want things to go well for them.  So, this year was disappointing because we didn't have the success we thought we would.  But, we've also seen lots of improvement.  My pit crew has worked really hard, and our pit stops have just gotten better and better.

"And, I really like working with Jerry Pitts.  He has been on a learning curve because he came in pretty late in the year, but our relationship is growing and each race becomes easier and easier.

"We're getting it all together with this new program and all the teams under one roof.  I know 2007 will be a good year for us."
